Apoptygma Berzerk (Stephan Groth)

Also 2. Versuch: mal öffentlich anfragen, wo man denn Interviewfragen hinschicken könnte.

Hi guys of APB:
on Thursday, January 12th 2006 I asked if you could answer some questions for us via mail.
I´d appreciate if you´d answer the following questions for our readers ans listeners!
Answer: Hi! Here is the Apoptygma interview you requested.

So, let´s start our questions:
What do you normally do during the last half hour before a concert?
Answer: Warming up and get ready. I´m always entering another state of mind before going on stage.

What band or solo artist could you imagine covering you?
Answer: I don´t know, hopefully someone good :-)

Does your religion / belief influence your work?
Answer: Well, it influences me all the time, also when working with music.
Being into religion is a "full time job" it´s a way of life.

What aspects determined the choice of the songs for the present album?
Answer: Before we started to record the album, we had about 20 songs, some
of them where not chosen because they were too "far out", some of them ended up as b-sides on singles.
We agreed with our management and the label about what songs should be on the album.

Will the song "Coma White" be published on the next album?
Answer: No, its very old, I recorded it way back for a "Tribute to Marylin Manson CD".

What influences the style of your songs most when writing/composing it:
your personal mood or your favourite music to listen to in this moment?

Answer: Both.....listening to other peoples music influences me a lot, often makes me want to try out new things.
And the mood I´m in totally change the song (or lyric) to fit whatever mental state I´m in.

Are you trying to consider the taste of the existing fans when
composing or is it more important to you to identify with the material?

Answer: Trying to fit anything to the fans taste would be very wrong for me to do, I´m always trying to push the limits, see how much the fans can take... I want to excite them and challenge them, I want to challenge them to the point were they have to challenge themselves. I want the fans to WANT TO like new Apop songs, even though they maybe not like a song the first time they hear it. I want them to push themselves, I want them to be interested in finding out what we are about.

In March you'll return to Germany, Austria, Italy and Suisse.
Afterwards, a tour across the USA is planned, isn´t it? Are European and American fans different?
What's the response on electronic music like in the USA?

Answer: Well, Americans and Europeans are extremely different, but people in "the scene" are more alike since they are all into
many of the same things, regardless of where they are from. But I would say that in general American fans are more excited and
party-minded , but European fans are more loyal and TRUE.

Compared to other bands you play festivals or concerts in Germany quite often. Are there any special reasons for that? - Not that we'd mind having artists of your format with us...
Answer: Well, Germany is our biggest market. Most of our crew is German, our label is German, our management is German and so are our two booking agents.
And well, we are No. 18 in the German charts right now, and thats a good reason to play there alot.

What can we still expect of Apoptygma in 2006? Have you got further plans(DVD, CD, singles, festivals)?
Answer : A 3rd single from YAMATW, a tour in march, probably some festivals in the summer.

Is there anything you'd like to tell the German fans (besides Nodka *LOL*)? (The name Nodka is created by Tracey in the Chat!)
Answer: Nodka, ha ha, yeah I would like to say THANK YOU ! to all the German fans who bought the records and came to the shows.
As I already said, we are top 20 in Germany right now, and thats BECAUSE OF YOU !!!
I´m extremely thankful. See you on the tour....

THANK YOU for answering the questions!
You are welcome!
Thanks for supporting APOP !

WE WISH YOU ALL THE BEST FOR THE YEAR 2006!
GREETINGS FROM GERMANY
DaniK

Take care, STP-APOP
